That's where the 2013 Kia Rio comes in. The Rio version will include a new stop-start system as an option on the 2013 model year. The technology shuts down the engine when the car is stopped (like in traffic) which conserves fuel and ultimately saves you money and even helps the environment.

The stop-start technology allows the 2013 Kia Rio to get 30 mpg in the city and 40 mpg on the highway by utilizing a 1.6-liter, 4-cylinder engine.

But just how many more miles per gallon does a stop-start system typically add onto a vehicle's rating? The EPA doesn't release official numbers on vehicles with them equipped, as the effectiveness relies on how many city miles are actually traveled. What we can tell you, however, is that the new Kia stop-start system will cost $1,650 ($400 for the stop-start system Eco Package and $1,150 for the Convenience Package it requires) on top of the vehicle's normal MSRP.
