Kia Optima Sets Hybrid World Record

Over the past decade Kia has gone from a smaller car manufacturer to a major player in the industry. Some of the biggest changes came recently when Kia decided to change their design language. The new look can be viewed on the 2011 and 2012 cars including the Kia Forte.

In continuing their ascent in the car industry the Kia Optima Hybrid just broke a world record.

The 2011 Kia Optima Hybrid has just completed travel through 48 states in the U.S. The two drivers, Wayne Gerdes and Chris Bernius, drove 7,899 miles while getting 64.55 miles per gallon. The mileage they got beat the car's EPA highway rating by 61%! The trip took 14 days and the pair drove 564 miles on average per day. Since the car was so efficient they only filled the tank 5.5 times yet they traveled 1,418 miles between gas stations.

The official Guinness World Records title is: Lowest fuel consumption driving through all 48 contiguous US states in a gasoline hybrid car. Try saying that three times fast.

"While traveling across the United States the Optima Hybrid experienced temperatures ranging from more than 118 degrees Fahrenheit to less than freezing point." Kia's senior executive vice president and chief operating officer Thomas Oh said in a statement.1

Come down to Lokey Kia on 27960 U.S. Hwy 19 N in Clearwater, FL 33761 to see the new Kia cars for yourself. We can walk you through the cars or setup a test drive. Come see us today.
