Kia Sells 1 Million Vehicles Worldwide

Kia recently hit a major milestone - in only a few short years of selling automobiles globally, the South Korean company has sold over 1 million cars.

In June of 2010 alone Kia sales shot up 16.2% - compared to the same month last year. 184,111 units, including passenger cars, light off-roaders and commercial vans and trucks were sold in the month.

Hyoung-Keun Lee, President of Kia Motors Corporation, said in the recent report, "I am encouraged to see sales of Kia vehicles around the world eclipse the 1 million unit annual mark faster than ever before in our company's history. All of our major markets are now gearing up for retail sales of the completely redesigned and reengineered Sportage CUV, which will certainly add to our momentum and help continue strong sales for the brand in the second half of the year."

Kia has posted the C-segment sales of 33,803 units for June 2010. The B-segment Rio and Sportage compact SUV follow with 18,413 and 16,827 units sold, respectively. The Sorento mid-size CUV sales were 15,322 units for June 2010.

In June 2010, sales in general markets increased 52.6% to 39,656 units, sales in China increased by 18.1% to 26,663 units, sales in North America increased by 17.9% to 37,770 units, and Europe sales were up to 12.0% to 35,591 units.
